RIP Peter Freyne

posted Wednesday, 7 January 2009

Burlington and Vermont lost a piece of their heart and soul early this morning (1/7/09) when Peter Freyne left us for wherever people go when they stop breathing.  Peter had been ill for a while - so it wasn't a total shock.  But are we ever ready to say goodbye?  Well, Peter probably was.  He didn't suffer fools gladly.  And maybe he was starting to question his care providers and started looking for a higher reaching HMO.

Our friend Bob spent a few hours beside Peter at Finnigan's Pub as well at a coffee shop or two and learned a lot about Burlington, Vermont, life.

Oh, there are many people who are probably saying Peter is in a "much warmer place" - a place he made others feel they were in many times with his weekly words, "Inside Track."  Right (usually) or wrong (yes, sometimes) he kept politicians accountable for their words and actions.  Nothing wrong (ever) with that.

In one of our shows many years ago, we created a character, Freda Payne - Beaver Pond's gossip columnist.   Maybe she has a bit more insight now.

Over the years, if we were in Burlington and ran into Peter, he never hesitated to stop, talk and pose - a drag queen's dream.

Bye Peter, you are missed.

We ran into Peter at the Seven Days Daysie Awards in '08 (above right), and in '07.
