Mardi Gras 2008!

posted Sunday, 24 February 2008

It was a beautiful (and not frozen!) Saturday afternoon, 2/23/08, for the 13th annual Mardi Gras Parade in downtown Burlington, Vermont.  The parade, sponsored by Magic Hat Brewery, was a benefit for the Women's Rape Crisis Center.   We, the House of LeMay, appeared/attended at our 9th parade.  This year we didn't go as ourselves, we were a 6 pack of your favorite Magic Hat beers!!!

Fat Angel                           Lucky Kat

Circus Boy                                    Hocus Pocus

Mother Logger Lager                             Number 9

This is Mother Logger getting out of the trunk.
We didn't have room in the car for her and her skirt.
Before the Parade...
Who would believe that one of the first people we would run into
would be Magic Hat founder and head guy Alan Newman!!!
And why did the Girls from SoCo think we'd like their product?
We used to have a float in the parade, but decided it was much more fun (for us) to walk around and meet people. But that didn't stop us from going to the Hood Plant parking lot where the parade begins.

Had to stop by our friends at the Seven Days Seven Ring Circus float.
First we saw Don as gorilla food (a banana with coco-nuts?).
Then we saw Colby (a Circus Boy himself!) and Rick (the gorilla!).
Mother Logger Lager in need of a Lyin' Lion Tamer?
Some may think it takes balls to do what we do... but what if you
are Champ, the mascot for the Vermont Lake Monsters?
Our good friends Jen (of Jen derNeutral - our Dutch cousin fame)
and Jack (of our Spirits of the Tower night)
were on the Lyric Theatre Company float that was promoting
their upcoming production of Beauty and the Beast (not pictured!).
Moving along, we stopped at a house party... thanks, Wendy!
And YES, we were invited!!!  We'll come to your party too, just ask!

We saw a bunch of folks from the Burlington Free Press and also
our buddy Carlos of SEABA (South End Arts & Business Association).

And, if we're downtown, we HAVE to stop by Old Gold!!!
This is where (wear?) we picked up a LOT of our accessories
for our outfits.
We ran into Derrick - a Magic Hat sales rep.
The Parade
We gotta admit, we didn't see much of the parade.  We found ourselves in Red Square when it was parade time - and never found our way out to Church Street.  But we weren't the only ones!!!  If you want to see pictures of more floats, we'll add a link later on.  If you want to see what happened in Red Square, scroll on!
Rachel, sitting in between Hocus and Fat Angel, took a break
from bartending to sit with us.
She was telling us how much fun she had the week before with her friends Hot Neon Magic at the Drag Ball.
Not sure what magic spell Hocus Pocus was
putting on good looking guys -

but it seemed to be working!
Hardly any of them told him to "buzz off."
And then there was Bathrobe Guy!!

We weren't the only beer on tap hand,
there was also the St. Pauli Girl
who made sure she had a picture taken with each of us.

Our Phat Fat Angel had her fun...

Comparing ink (left) and with our good friend DJ Alan Perry.

Not many pictures of Licky Lucky Kat...
where was she off to playing?

And we know Lucy Belle ALWAYS thought she was a "10"...

Circus Boy seemed to freak most people out...
except a Hillary supporter... hmmmm.

But he DID find two bitches friends...

And maybe Magic Hat retired Mother Lager for a reason.

Have you noticed... we had fun!!

And THEN we went to RiRa's !!!!
Michael is always happy to see us!!!
Is he our favorite bartender at Ri Ra's?
We saw one of Ri Ra's regulars Mardirita Margaritta...
not to be confused with Margaurite LeMay!

Lucky Kat is trying to get some dinner. She is rubbing her tail on someone.
And of course we ran into some fans of ours.

On the left - If #9 was looking for some comfort - there's no surprise
that it would be of the southern variety.
On the right - Great staff at RiRa's!!!
On the way out the door we ran into Sherwin!!!
Tell Ginger we said "Hi!"
From here our designated driver whisked us back to Beaver Pond.
We were tired!
Our good friends Mike, Johnnie and Bob, we hear,
went to Higher Ground for the VooDoo Poof Party.
They said they had fun, too!
A fun day and night!!
