Life is a (Spielpalast) Cabaret! And RiRa's, too!

posted Sunday, 11 May 2008

It was a beautiful Saturday (May 10, 2008) when we went to see one of our favorite shows.  It's called the Spielpalast Cabaret.  And people always ask... what is that??  Well, it's dancing, music, thought-provoking skits, unique set pieces and props.  For a more in-depth definition, check out what THEY say about it.  The Spielpalast Cabaret was performed at Contois Auditorium in City Hall, downtown Burlington.   We had previously seen this annual show at the Flynn Space and in the Ballroom at Higher GroundHere's a review from a few years ago.

But, if we were in Burlington on a beautiful Saturday evening, we HAD to have a cocktail out on the Church Street Marketplace!  So we stopped at Red Square!  Chad (pictured on the far left beside Amber) and his friends invited us to join their table... we did... for a picture.

When we go out, we love to have ourselves some male companionship.  And we were so lucky this night to have our good friends Craig and Matt with us

Craig was our chauffeur for the evening and Matt's job was to keep us from embarrassing ourselves (as you can tell later on, he went home early).  Here Matt is helping Marguarite avoid a wardrobe malfunction.  THANK YOU, MATT!!!

Meanwhile Amber was rambling talking about how some people who see the Virgin Mary on trees or Jesus on teaspoons are compensating for something missing in their lives.  Then she took this picture.

Of course we love Red Square (check out our Mardi Gras pictures) but we could see from our table that the line was starting to form to get into the show... so off we went!

Yes, by the time we paid our tab and crossed the street the line had grown.  And no one would let us cut!!  So we had to amuse ourselves... so we posed with/for people.

Like Jason.  We first met him the day of Maggie's branding tattoo and then we saw him at this year's Fools Fest.  Since he just recently moved to Vermont, we warned informed him about Vermont's stalking laws.

Matt noticed something different about Amber's nails.  She told him that Maggie pedified her. When getting ready, Amber needed some nails, Maggie gave her some.  Halfway through the process, Amber noticed they didn't look or feel right.  Maybe it was because they were TOE nails!

We finally approached entrance!!  Church Street was humming.  You can see the street vendors, and there were breakdancers and LOTS of people.

Out on the sidewalk and in the lobby and before the show, cast members and volunteers worked the crowd to get us in the right mood.  The lovelies on the right are our good friends Tracy and Bridget.

Going into the auditorium, we thought it was pretty funny seeing the surveillance camera above the sign "No Photos" sign.  But, we did obey the "No Photos" sign... during the first act.  During intermission and afterwards we couldn't resist taking some pictures of people.

There was SO much talent in the show.  Director/Choreographer Lois Trombley and Emcee/Host Phinneus Sonin (click here too) are really incredible performers and entertainers.  One of our other favorite performers (and all around people) is Eva Sollberger (on the right).  You know her from her Stuck in Vermont videos.  Here's the video for this year's show and here's the one she made about last year's Spielpalast Cabaret

We also posed in one of the set pieces created by our good buddy Dostie.  He's the guy that does the LIVE ART for us during the Drag Balls.  And then it was time to leave Contois.

And SOME of us couldn't resist and had to pose with statues... It's too early to go home... hmmm, how 'bout RiRa's?

It was time to head on back to Beaver Pond BUT we had one more thing to do... pose for one of our upcoming projects... The League of Drag Queen Voters.  Coming soon to a polling place near you!

And to prove what goes around, comes around... who did we run into while posing on the carved rocks?  Chad, from Red Square!
