 Beaver Pond, Vermont

With the motto, “Don’t blow it, VOTE!”, the League of Drag Queen Voters (LDQV) is out to assure that people understand the importance of their participation in the upcoming fall elections.  “With drastic differences in the candidates and parties, it’s going to bring the wackos out,” says Amber LeMay, founder of the new voter information group.   “And we want everyone else to realize this.  We’re going to vote – you better, too!“

The LDQV is expected to be a non-profit organization.  “Trust me, if we could make money off of it,we would,” cites Ms. LeMay, also the mother-founder of Vermont’s most established (oldest!) drag queen troupe, The House of LeMay.   The House of LeMay, from their humble beginnings at the Hot Damn Trailer Park in Beaver Pond, Vermont, has been entertaining and challenging Vermont and regional audiences for over a decade.  With their funny songs, witty banter and often outrageous costumes, the girls and guys from “The House” leave a lasting impression.  So much so that New York filmmaker Russell Dreher is in the process of finalizing “Slingbacks & Syrup – meet the girls of Beaver Pond and the boys who play them.”

This is not the LeMay’s first encounter with politics.  They’ve often been associated with political figures.  In fact, when former NY Governor Elliot Spitzer had to resign, The House issued a statement declaring that they had NO association with Spitzer nor the Emperor’s Club.  This can be seen by clicking HERE.   By going to that link, you’ll see pictures of The House with former Vermont governors Madeline Kunin and Howard Dean, along with Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy.

In 2006 a member of The House of LeMay, Beaver Pond mayor Bibs Fisk, was a write-in candidate for U.S. Senate.  You can see a video report here.

The House of LeMay will formerly introduced the League of Drag Queen Voters on their float in the Vermont Pride Parade, Saturday, July 12, in Burlington.

You can support the efforts of The House of LeMay and LDQV by purchasing items from their CaféPress store.

To contact the LeMays and the LDQV, go to theirwebsite, www.houseoflemay.com or write to houseoflemay@hotmail.com.

Now, to be affiliated with such a political organization would be an honor, indeed. Three cheers and great good luck with the League Of Drag Queen Voters. Count me in when you're up and running. An idea whose time has come!
