Fools Fest '08 and a Night on the Town!

posted Monday, 7 April 2008

What a(nother) fun night!!!  We were asked to perform at the second annual Fools' Fest, a benefit for the drama club at Edmunds Middle School - or as we like to call them, the future drag queens of America.  They must've liked what we did last year, because they asked us back to headline this year's show!  It took place on Saturday, April 5 at Contois Auditorium in Burlington's City Hall.  Of course we couldn't just come to Burlington to do a show... we had to go see some of our favorite people in some of our favorite places!

After our chauffeur, Matt, dropped us off on Church Street we had to stop and have our picture taken... some by us and some of us by others... It's always amazing how surprised people are by seeing us on the street.   And it's great to see the smiles!  It was a beautiful early spring(!) evening and there were lots of people out and about.

As we were deciding on where to have a(nother) pre-show cocktail, we ran into Freda and Michael Tutt.  They were taking a break from working on the lighting at the Flynn Theater for the upcoming production by Lyric Theatre Company of Beauty and the Beast!  You may recognize Freda - she was one of the girls from Beaver Creek in our Stocking Stufffers '07 show.  We call this picture "Tutts and Tits."

We decided to stop in at Red Square... the last time we had been there was for Mardi Gras!  Amber was intrigued by the art on the walls.  Especially this picture entitled, "NO NO NO" by artist Robyn Peirce.

Maggie found a friend in Dave the bartender.

Matt better watch his back(side) and Lucy and Maggie look like they're already in the mood for a good night out.

Why did the drag queens cross the (Church) street?  To do a show!  It was exciting standing outside the doors of Contois Auditorium not knowing quite what to expect.

One of the first people we ran into was Jason Lorber.  He was there to perform, too, with a couple of other guys doing improv.  Very funny stuff!

Amber, of course, immediately made friends with Sue and Marty - the beertenders.  And then proceeded to re-acquaint herself to Dan Feeney, a familiar face from last year.  It was time to head backstage to get ready to perform...

Craig had to make some last minute changes to the order of the show.  Martha and Don were in charge of the evening and were getting ready to introduce us.

Before going on stage, Lucy and Maggie pose in one our many outfits for the evening.  This one is in Lucy's favorite color - shiny.  And Amber "gets into character" in preparation to sing "I Want To Be Raided by You."

We opened up with "We're LeMays", Maggie sang "Pour Me A Man", we drug out our Judy Garland medley, Amber sang "I Want to get Raided by You", Lucy did her poem, "One More Time" and we closed, of course, with "Colorado."

After us it was time for dancing to the tunes of the X-Rays and socializing!
The guy dancing with us is Jason.  We first met him the day that Maggie got branded tattooed.  We were shopping at Old Gold for Drag Ball and he stalked followed us and became part of the video that was shown on Late Night Saturday. The other guy with Amber is one of our most loyal fans, Phil.

For SOME reason, we (Amber) loves to take pictures in the various mens rooms where we perform.  No, we don't perform IN the mens room... of course not!  Anyway, shortly after the picture on the left was taken there was an announcement from the stage... "We have found a camera in the mens room."  Yep, how embarrASSing.  But, we had a great time at Fools Fest and hope we get invited back for next year.

From Contois Auditorium we decided to check on the Tutts at the Flynn Theater (see above).  They (and the rest of the great Lyric crew) were nice enough to let us on the stage to pose for some pictures...doesn't the set look great?

And even though Maggie has been very good at sticking to her diet, the real-looking food props from the show looked tempting!

Before heading back to Beaver Pond, we couldn't leave Burlington with out visiting RiRa's.  What a fun crowd!!

We had SO much fun!!  If you saw us out that night, leave a comment!! If you took a picture of us, send us a copy!!  If you'd like us to appear at YOUR fund raiser or private party... hire us!!
